The ultrasonography of clinically verified coloboma of choroid in two young adults is illustrated. The punched out lesion with sharply defined rim is almost pathognomonic. The ultrasonographic differential diagnosis is described

During the study of five cases, the choroidal detachment-like echoes, the mass type lesion and the irregular disorganised patterns were encountered. It was noticed, however, that the obtained sonographs depended upon the precipitating cause, the extent [and stage] of inflammation and the associated structural changes as well as the direction of the transducer. Hence, it seems that the ultrasonographic pattern, alone cannot solely be considered pathognomonic. However, it is recommended not to decide eye-excision before performing the ultrasonography
